I’m Mara Szyp, an oil painter profoundly moved by the ocean, the land, and the shifting skies that define the West Coast. Nature has always been my greatest muse, guiding me toward creating atmospheric, romanticized landscapes and contemporary abstracts that invite viewers into a world of emotion and light.

As my practice evolved, I felt called to explore beyond the canvas. I became captivated by the textures and quiet stories held within driftwood and live-edge wood. What began as curiosity became a second artistic language—one where painting and sculpture meet. Working with these organic materials allows me to honour the coastline not only through colour, but through form, grain, and tactile presence. Each piece becomes a way of bringing the outdoors into the intimate spaces of daily life.

Nothing brings me greater joy than witnessing someone connect with my work—whether in oil or in wood—because each creation is a reflection of the dream that set my journey in motion.
