Telegraph Cove Orcas (study) ~
This painting pays tribute to the orcas that grace the waters around Vancouver Island, beloved by locals and visitors alike. These majestic creatures, deeply rooted in Indigenous culture and myth, represent mystery and magic to many. Though we don’t speak the same language, we are drawn to them whenever we are near the ocean.
Victoria is fortunate to host a resident orca pod that visits year-round, traveling the coastline and often seen around Telegraph Cove. The recent scare with baby Little Hunter brought a renewed appreciation for their resilience and the family bonds that sustain them.
In this artwork, orcas are depicted moving as a family through the cold, pristine waters of Vancouver Island. They are framed by the region’s signature fog and the towering trees of mist-shrouded islets. The scene captures the powerful beauty and deep connection many feel to the island's coastal waters, where the orcas' presence is both a reminder of nature's grandeur and the wild magic that defines our home.
