Ebb and Flow ~
This piece explores the never-ending journey of kelp once it has detached from the ocean forest. No longer anchored to the seabed, it drifts freely between deep waters and shallow shores, carried by tides, currents, sun, and moonlight. Once a shelter and playground for marine life, it now moves through a quieter stage of transformation — weathered, wandering, and constantly changing.
The subdued palette reflects the softness and subtlety of this voyage. Gentle earth tones, muted greens, and layered textures invite a slower observation, much like discovering washed kelp along the shoreline after a storm.
What I love most about Ebb and Flow is its versatility in perspective. It can be displayed vertically or horizontally, allowing the viewer to decide their own relationship to the landscape and movement within the painting. Seen from above, it becomes both abstract and organic — a meditation on change, release, and the beauty of drifting.
MEDIUM: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
SURFACE: Gallery wrapped canvas, wired and ready to hang.
SIZE: 36” x 18” | 1.5” deep
