Together is a one-of-a-kind original artwork painted directly onto naturally weathered driftwood, capturing a pod of orcas travelling through the coastal waters of the West Coast.
The composition is about connection. The orcas move through the water as a group, each following its own path while remaining part of something larger. There is a quiet rhythm in the way they travel together — a feeling of companionship, family, and belonging.
I love allowing the natural shape of the driftwood to influence the painting. Its long, organic form becomes part of the landscape, while the weathered edges, grain and natural contours remain visible beneath the layers of paint. Rather than treating the wood simply as a surface, I let its character become part of the artwork itself.
A clear resin finish brings depth and luminosity to the painted surface, creating a smooth, glass-like finish over the naturally textured wood. The result is a beautiful contrast between the raw, organic character of the driftwood and the polished surface of the finished painting.
